Within the PhD Course in Design, Modeling and Simulation in Engineering held at the University of Pavia, a new initiative, called “Piola Lecture”, has been launched, starting from 2017: it has been thought to celebrate Gabriele Piola, a very important name in the Computational Mechanics world but, first of all, student of the University of Pavia.
The “Piola Lecture” is given on a yearly basis by world famous researchers in the Computational Mechanics, Structure and Material field.
The third lecture, that will take place on March 7th, 2019 in Aula Foscolo, will be taught by Prof. Eugenio Oñate. Professor of Structural Mechanics at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, founder and director of the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE), he is for sure one of the most important researchers in the Computational Mechanics field.
The first two Piola Lectures were taught by Prof. Thomas JR Hughes, from University of Texas at Austin, in 2017, and by Prof. Robert L. Taylor, from University of California, Berkeley.
