β-lab

Biomechanics for Endovascular Treatments of the Aorta

The β-lab is a joint venture between the Computational Mechanics & Advanced Materials Group at the University of Pavia and the 3D and Computer Laboratory of the IRCCS Policlinico San Donato Hospital in Milan.

Since 2011, we have been working in computational simulations of the cardiovascular system, covering many vascular districts such as the aorta and the coronary tree as well as many well-known pathologies. Simulations range from analysis in healthy individuals, to congenital diseases and treatment planning.
What is unique in our lab is the constant engagement between engineers and physicians, who work together daily so as to foster in-silico and in-vitro research. This synergy allows us to apply state-of-the art methods for computational solid and fluid mechanics to big cohorts of patients, coming from the hospital databases and from ad-hoc clinical trials.
