The new Digital Smart Fluidics for Life Science project has been funded by Regione Lombardia within the POR FESR 2014-2020 program. The project was presented by Fluid-o-Tech (leader) together with University of Pavia, Fondazione I.R.C.C.S. Policlinico San Matteo and the companies MC2, Sidam, and PRIMA Lab.
The DSF project aims at creating a standardized fluidic platform for the development of smart biomedical devices and equipment for hospital and home infusion therapy for hospitalisation, artificial nutrition, pain therapy and resuscitation. This platform allows to overcome the technological limits imposed by existing devices. This innovative and more precise fluidic platform will be based on technologies already owned by the partner companies of the project and will create miniaturized fluid components, which are extremely precise and reliable, remotely controllable, totally silent and ready for single use. The remote control will favour the development of devices to support the monitoring and administration of parenteral and enteral therapies, as well as the administration of drugs, favouring the diffusion of hospital and home clinical practices, currently limited by technological factors which the Project intends to overcome.
The first intelligent fluidics competence centre for Life Science will open in Lombardy, and it will be dedicated to the development of biomedical equipment and systems to overcome the technological limits currently imposed by existing devices. It starts with 4 specific applications, but aims to be a pilot in the realization of components that define an innovative fluidics platform, with enormous development potential through the aggregation of other specialized companies in the Lombardy region and other players in the biomedical field to accelerate the process of innovation and spin-offs in the biomedical and industrial field, affecting a large pool of users in Lombardy.
