Detailed characterization of the fibrosis induced by cryoablation, holds the potential to describe and measure in vivo effects of this energy source. A correlation between the extension of the fibrosis (at the left atrium – pulmonary vein antrum) and clinical efficacy may, indeed, result in improved technical application of cryoenergy. This enhancement could reduce AF recurrences and the need for repeated PVI ablations, leading to a significant reduction of the costs for AF treatment
