Peter Wriggers to deliver Piola Lecture 2023 on virtual elements in finite element analysis.

La deduzione della relazione costitutiva in Cauchy e in Green

Renowned researcher Peter Wriggers is set to deliver the Piola Lecture 2023, titled “Are virtual elements the better finite elements?”. The Piola Lecture is an annual event held by the University of Pavia in honor of Gabrio Piola, a prominent figure in the history of global mechanics who was an alumnus of the university. Wriggers is the founder of the Institut fuer Kontinuumsmechanik at Leibniz Universitaet Hannover, where he also served as Vice-President for Research from 2015-2021.

Wriggers’ extensive research portfolio includes developing new finite element schemes for solving problems involving large deformations, and tackling contact problems. He is also a member of various international scientific advisory boards, including Rocini (Rostock Centre for Interdisciplinary Implant Research), the CIMNE (International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering), and the CISM (International Center of Mechanical Sciences), among others. Additionally, he is the Editor-in-Chief of the journals “Computational Mechanics” and “Computational Particle Mechanics”.

The Piola Lecture is scheduled for Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 2:00 PM, in Aula Scarpa. All those interested are invited to attend the lecture, and are encouraged to extend the invitation to others. The Piola Lecture is a valuable opportunity to learn from some of the world’s foremost experts in computational mechanics, and Wriggers’ lecture is sure to be informative and engaging.
