Correlation between the shape of the carotid arteries and hypertension

Is there any correlation between the shape of our carotid arteries and hypertension? This is what our PhD student Giovanni Maria Formato is working on visiting the Bristol Heart Institute in Bristol University (UK). Supervised by Dr. Giovanni Biglino and Dr. Emma Hart, Giovanni Maria is reconstructing the right and left carotids from Magnetic Resonance Images of more than 120 patients to analyze how the geometric characteristics of different tracts affect the cerebral perfusion and blood pressure wave reflection and how these can be linked to the development and course of the pathology.
