Within an area dedicated to the world of 3D printing in concrete in the Italcementi – HeidelbergCement Group, the University of Pavia was at Made Expo, the “Italy’s most important trade show for the Building & Construction industry and also one of Europe’s most significant events dedicated to the Architecture and the Construction sectors”, held in Rho (MI), March 13 – 16, 2019.
The stand at Made Expo exhibited reinforced 3D printed concrete elements with structural applications, obtained combining digital fabrication techniques to ad-hoc cementitious materials. The 3D printed concrete elements were produced thanks to the open collaboration among Italcementi, the startup Materias and its spin-off Etesias, the University of Napoli “Federico II” (Prof. Domenico Asprone, Eng. Costantino Menna) and the Compmech Group (Prof. Ferdinando Auricchio).
3DConcrete@UniPV, a novel Compmech Group project (Prof. Ferdinando Auricchio, Eng. Lorenzo Casagrande), daily studies cementitious materials for structural 3D printing purposes, evaluating innovative mixings and their mechanical performances.
Italcementi has been the leading company in Italy in the construction materials industry for 155 years, contributing since its foundation in 1864 to the growth of the country thanks to its innovation capacity for its products and solutions for the building community. Nowadays, Italcementi belongs to HeidelbergCement Group. Italcementi started researching 3D printing technology applied to cement industry at its research and innovation laboratories in Bergamo in 2015.
