Collaborating with the D3 Group: Bayesian techniques for optimization and inversion

Collaborating with the D3 Group in Dresden

Bayesian techniques for optimization and inversion

From June to December 2024, Mihaela Chiappetta visited the D3 Group in Dresden, Germany, as part of her PhD research in Design, Modelling, and Simulations in Engineering with the CompMech@UniPV group at the University of Pavia, DICAR Department.

Her collaboration focused on the development and implementation of Bayesian techniques for optimization and inversion, aimed at creating a framework for uncertainty quantification in architected material spinodoid structures. A key achievement of this collaboration was the creation of a Python code repository on Git, which provides a robust foundation for future research and practical applications.

The project was first presented by Mihaela Chiappetta during a poster session at the D3 Colloquium in Holzhau, offering her a valuable platform to share insights and receive feedback from fellow researchers.
This research initiative was supported by the D3 Group of GRK 2688, whose expertise, resources, and collaborative approach greatly contributed to its success.

Mihaela Chiappetta expresses her gratitude to the D3 Group for their warm welcome, guidance, and support, with special thanks to Professor Markus Kästner for his supervision. She also acknowledges her supervisors in the COMPMECH group for fostering the collaborations that made this opportunity possible.
This collaboration not only advanced her research but also strengthened the connections between the two research groups, paving the way for future fruitful collaborations.
