0D digital twin for studying the impact of vascular graft

From a methodological standpoint, during pre-clinical studies, the post-surgical effects induced by graft implantation should be studied through ad-hoc strategies that typically involve the adoption of pulse duplicators coupled with ex-vivo tissues harvested from animal models. To evaluate the impact of a synthetic graft implant on PWV and PP, we developed a zero-dimensional lumped parameter. The proposed 0D computational model will be validated through a mock circulation loop, which can replicate the hemodynamic of the circulatory system using ex-vivo porcine vessels to study different vascular prostheses

Conducted by Giulia Formenton, developed from her master’s thesis, and supervised by Alessandro Caimi using the simulation environment MATLAB Simulink.

The validation phase of the model was developed with the fundamental contribution of Martina Schembri and Ariel F. Pascaner.

The research activity was managed by Michele Conti and Ferdinando Auricchio.
