Based at the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, to date the CompMech Goup is made up of two full professors, one associate professor, three researchers and around 20 between research fellows, PhD, master’s students from both Italy and abroad, and support staff.
The group research interests are today focused to 3D printing, numerical methods, biomechanics, advanced materials, and civil engineering.
Academic research and teaching aside, the group is also very active in organizing courses, schools and conferences, in participating to national and international calls and in professional consulting and services.
Since 2011 the group has been actively involved in the use and study of additive manufacturing, creating an interdisciplinary laboratory equipped with various technologies. In 2015, this activity was identified as one of the five Strategic Themes of the University of Pavia (3D@UniPV). In 2018, 3D4Med, the first clinical 3D printing laboratory ever located inside a hospital (namely, Pavia’s IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo) was inaugurated.
At the end of 2018, 3DMetal@UniPV, a new additive manufacturing laboratory, came into being thanks to the synergy of the University of Pavia and La Marzocco and Fluid-o-tech industries. The new lab was created to produce metal components of interest to the industrial partners and to carry out research on device optimization and process simulation.
CompMech Group was originated in 2001 by professor Ferdinando Auricchio, Professor of Solids and Structural Mechanics at the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Pavia.
