The Research Unit is focused on the development and exploitation of advance computational tools and materials, adopted in several application areas, ranging from structural mechanics to additive manufacturing (3D printing), from biomedical to mechanical engineering, from signal analysis to structural restoration.
Examples of fields of interest are: simulation, optimization, and design of devices (e.g., cardiovascular implants; fluid valves; heat exchangers); advanced constitutive modeling (e.g., shape memory materials); environmental load modelling; composite materials for restoration purposes; recovery tools for stress patterns in structures; experimental thermo-fluido-mechanical characterization; image treatments (especially in the biomedical area); machine learning.
Special focus is on 3D printing, from micro/macro simulations to component design/optimization and production (with several technologies available in our labs) and development of novel production approaches (e.g., advanced ceramics).
