Luigi Greco is a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture (DICAr) of the University of Pavia, within the Structural Mechanics Division. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering (2019), a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (2021, cum laude) and a Ph.D. in Design, Modeling and Simulation in Engineering (2025), all from the University of Pavia, with a doctoral thesis on isogeometric methods for fracture mechanics via phase-field modeling. During his Ph.D. he was a visiting researcher at the Bundeswehr University Munich, and he has since held a visiting postdoctoral position at the University of Rostock (Germany).
His research focuses on Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) and phase-field modeling of fracture, with an emphasis on high-order, higher-continuity formulations that improve the accuracy and efficiency of crack-propagation simulations in brittle and ductile materials, in both quasi-static and dynamic regimes. His current work spans the development of new fracture models and the application of high-order fracture models to laboratory experiments, together with extensions to fatigue fracture, isogeometric shells, and adaptive discretizations based on truncated hierarchical B-splines.
He is actively involved in the organization of scientific mini-symposia, courses and seminars, and serves as a reviewer for several international journals in computational mechanics. He is a co-founder of the University of Pavia SIAM Student Chapter and a member of the Y-SIMAI (SIMAI Young) committee.
